Game #1:
The first game pitted us against the tournament's #12
seed (7-23 during the season), The Sport Shop, and it was not
contest. We scored 2, 1, 5, 1 and 1 runs to make it a
10-run game. Wesley Glaze hit his first of THREE
home runs on the day, Pete Gabrielli was 3-for-3, and
Chris Malinowski pitched a ONE-HITTER!
Game #2:
Saloonatics were our nemisis during the season, finishing in
4th place with a 21-9 record, just one better than us.
Again, another game that was no contest. Saloontics
opened the game with a run, but then didn't score again until
the 5th inning, held down by masterful pitching by Keith
DeLong. Meanwhile Maxie's scored 3 in the first, 3 more
in the 3rd and FIVE in the 4th to put the game away ...
Wesley Glaze and Mike Capilo both homered.
Pete Gabrielli was, AGAIN, 3-for-3.
Game #3:
Two wins to open the tournament put us pretty deep into the
winner's bracket but put us up against Beacon Softball, a team
that had lost only three games all year (1st place, 27-3).
We hit fairly well: Pete Gabrielli finally made
an out but was 3-for-4 (9-for-10 in the tournament at that
point), Wesley Glaze was 3-for-3, Jeff Petersen
was 4-for-4, and Darren Max was 3-for-3. However,
we couldn't overcome Beacon's 6-run outburst in the top of the
1st, and played catch up the entire game. |
Game #4:
Going into Game #4 on Sunday, 3-0, we were riding high.
Unfortunately, our bats never woke up from their Saturday
night sleep. Somehow after racking up 23 hits against
Beacon, we could manage only FIVE against Mohnton Fish & Game
(#3 Seed, 22-8), and ZERO extra-base hits. Rob Miller
had two of those hits, and scored our only run on an RBI
single by Mike Murphy. Still, that somehow kept
us in the game as Mohnton Fish & Game didn't hit either.
We both scored ONE lonely run in the 2nd inning, and the game
remained tied through SEVEN innings!!!! Then, sadly, in
the top of the EIGHTH inning, Mohnton pushed three across the
plate to win 4-1. We managed nothing in the bottom of
the 8th despite "having the hammer."
Game #5:
Game #5 we again faced Beacon who had not surprisingly been
working their way back up through the losers' bracket.
Perhaps the wind had been taken out of our sails or perhaps it
was just a matter of time before Beacon laid it on, but they
beat us 18-10. Beacon was up 8-0 going into the bottom
of the 2nd inning when we managed to score SEVEN runs to make
it 8-7. But that was about all we could muster.
Beacon kept scoring and the game was never really close after
that ... Mike Murphy was 4-for-4 in the game with our
only extra-base hit, a triple. |
