READING,
Pennsylvania -- Ryan Mougenel had a goal and assisted on the
other two scores to lead the Atlantic City Broadwalk Bullies
over the Reading Royals, 3-2. Mougenel opened the scoring nearly
eight minutes into the contest and also assisted on first-period
goals by both Kevin Colley and Mike Martiniello. He has now
registered six goals and 11 assists in 19 games this season.
Scott Stirling, who had a shutout bid stopped just 2:22 into the
final period, finished with 25 saves in the win. Atlantic City
is now 8-3-2 all-time versus Reading in the regular season.
Steve Rymsha and Brandon Dietrich both scored in the third
period for the Royals, who have lost three straight. Jeff Sanger
gave up all three goals within the first 14 minutes of the
contest before being replaced.

Omar Daal thinks it is important for pitchers
to be able to hit.
Daal (9-6), Philadelphia's
opening day starter last year before being traded
to the Dodgers in the offseason, allowed two runs
and six hits, while striking out five. He
gave Los Angeles a 1-0 lead with a solo shot in
the third inning off Phillies starter Brett
Myers (1-2). "It was a good pitch
to hit,'' Daal said. "I made a good swing and
was lucky to hit the ball out of the ballpark."
Daal pulled Myers' 1-0 fastball into the
right-field seats. It was his second career home
run.
"We know he is capable
because he swung the bat pretty good when he was
with us,'' Philadelphia manager Larry Bowa said.
Los Angeles manager Jim Tracy
was pleased with his starter. "Omar did
a fabulous job for us and obviously helped his own
cause with a home run,'' Tracy said.
Eric
Gagne pitched the ninth for his 36th save in
38 chances. Leading 4-2, he gave up a run on Marlon
Anderson's leadoff triple and Doug
Glanville's one-out single.
Adrian
Beltre added a two-run homer for the Dodgers
(62-49). Beltre's seventh-inning home run off
Myers and gave the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.
"Adrian's all business right now,'' Tracy
said. "We saw it in the second half of 2000
and we're starting to see it again. He's focused
and it's like we got a new player without trading
for one.''
Myers, making his third major
league start, allowed seven hits and three runs in
seven innings. "I felt good but made
some mistakes,'' Myers said. "You're supposed
to hit mistakes and they did.''
Philadelphia (52-58) closed to
3-2 in the seventh. Travis
Lee led off with a single and Jimmy
Rollins broke a 0-for-15 skid with a double.
Lee scored on Anderson's squeeze bunt, moving
Rollins to third. Paul
Shuey relieved Daal and struck out
pinch-hitter Jeremy Giambi, but then threw a wild
pitch that let Rollins score.
The Phillies placed runners at
first and second with two outs in the eighth
before reliever Paul
Quantrill struck out Rollins to end the
threat.
Eric
Karros doubled and Alex
Cora hit an RBI single in the ninth.
Lee went 3-for-3 and made a
run-saving stop on Dave
Roberts' line drive in the seventh inning.

Bobby
Abreu was 2-for-5 in the game. Scott Rolen was
traded to the Cardinals the week before this game,
leaving Abreu, Rollins and Burrell to fight it out for
the honor of the "biggest name" on the team. |
|
Shawn
Green was 0-for-4 in the game but is probably the lone
offensive player on the Dodgers this year (besides maybe
Adrian Beltre if he ever evolves) who anyone will
remember 20 years from now. |
|
Jimmy
Rollins is having a rough sophomore year, but is still
exciting to watch. He and Rolen were voted into
the All-Star Game in 2002. |

METS
AVOID SWEEP BEHIND TOP PROSPECT
Binghamton right-hander Aaron
Heilman is regarded as the top prospect in the New York
Mets organization. Sunday
afternoon the Phillies and a crowd of 6,447 saw why.
Heilman pitched masterfully over eight innings, allowing a
run and two Nate Espy hits on the way to a 4-2 victory.
The former
Notre Dame product improved his record to 3-4, ended a
three-game losing streak and won on the road for the first
time this season. He struck out five and walked one.
The Mets
(37-43) ended a seven-game losing streak and used the long
ball to get it done. They got home runs from
Prentice Redman (8), Chris Basak (3) and Aaron McNeal (14)
to account for all of their runs.
Martire Franco
(3-3) went eight innings for the Phillies.
An Espy RBI
double accounted for the Phillies' first run in the
fourth. The Phillies put together a mini-rally in
the ninth, scoring a run on Jason Johnson's two-out
single.
The loss was
only the third in the last 16 games for the Phillies
(50-33), who fell to 6-2 on the homestand. |

It
was an extremely hot day. So, unfortunately, Bev
had to take Jolie home around the 4th inning. But
we did get this incredibly cute picture in before they
left! |
|
Aaron
Heilman was the Met's #1 pick in 2001, and he's already
in AA. He got the win in this game. We got a
good view of him warming up in the bullpen
before the game. |
|
Fletcher
Bates was once part of the Mike Piazza trade. He
sat in the bullpen for much of the game and toyed with
the kids in the RF stands. |

This
is the view from our box seats that we got from Medlar
Electric. |

After
a 1 hour rain delay before the game even began, a number

that picture came out blurry! BLA! |
